Dogberry - Cornus mas

Dogberries or Houndberries are the fruits of the skull tree. They are used for making drinks, sweets and jam. They are stimulants for the human body and help the bowel function properly. Dogberries contain a high level of flavonoids and anthocyanins during the period of fruit development and maturation.
Research has shown that dogberries have a high content of flavonoids, anthocyanins and phenolic derivatives. Other laboratory studies have found high levels of iron (Fe) and vitamin C (103 mg / 100 g), as well as high levels of ascorbic acid (4873 mg / 100 g, more than strawberries, oranges and kiwi), carotene and tannins. Due to the tannins contained, it also has astringent properties.
